PUBLIC NOTICE OF HEARING REGARDING ENROLLMENT OF NONRESIDENT
STUDENTS’ POLICY
PUBLIC NOTICE
Notice is hereby given pursuant to K.S.A. 72-3126, of a public hearing to be held on the 13th day of November, 2023, at 7:00 p.m, at the Pike Valley Board of Education Office regarding the Unified School District No.426, Republic County, Kansas proposed policy to determine the number of nonresident students that the school district has the capacity to accept in each grade level for each school of the school district pursuant to K.S.A. 72-3123, and amendments thereto, including clearly specifying the reasons that the board may use to deny continued enrollment of a
nonresident student who is not in good standing.
A proposal will be presented to the board for consideration in policy and the board shall hear testimony regarding the proposed policy.

Chain of Command
There seems to be some confusion on proper procedures when a patron/parent has a concern about something in regards to the school system. We would like to encourage the following protocols be utilized when you have a particular concern you would like to address. Items in red are for coaches/sponsors and items in black are for staff (in the image).
1. In both cases focus on a 24 hour grace period when calmer heads can prevail.
Obviously, if something happened that was perceived as a danger or detriment to the
student or staff, then we want to deal with it expeditiously, but in most cases, it is wise
to wait until you have calmed down.
2. In all cases, start with the individual you have the concern with. If it is a teacher or staff member, meet with them—a coach or sponsor—meet with them.
3. If you do not feel that this rectified the situation, for a coach/sponsor concern you
would go to the athletic director and principal if it is a coach and the principal if it is a
teacher or staff member.
4. The next step in these procedures—if you met with the athletic director and principal, the next step is the superintendent. If you met with the principal about a concern with a staff member and you do not feel this dealt with the situation properly, your next step would be to meet with the Superintendent.
5. After all these steps have been followed and you still do not feel that it has been dealt with to your satisfaction, then you would request to meet with the board of education.
It is always a good idea to try and rectify the situation at the lowest level possible.
Also—with any other items of concern, it helps all concerned if you discuss these items at the lowest level possible. As an example—if you are concerned about the direction of an organization or sport, start by discussing this with the coach or sponsor. They can help direct you (if needed) to the principal, superintendent or board depending on the specifics of the situation.
I hope this helps clear up any confusion about how to proceed and, if you still need
clarification, please do not hesitate to contact either the principals or the
superintendent to clarify.

School Start Date Update
First of all, I want to thank all the parents and students for understanding and
having patience as we work through this process. Things are moving along, but
we will not be ready to start school next Thursday the 17 th . Our plan now is to
have our first day for students on Monday August 21 st . We feel this will be the
earliest possible date that we can truly have rooms ready for students to attend.
Again, thank you for your patience and understanding. We cannot wait for you to
see all the upgrades and renovations. Thank you

Pike Valley Online Enrollment:
Dates of online enrollment are August 4th, 7th, and 8th. If you have questions with the process or you need your Access ID and Password, the office personnel will be available from 8 am- 4 pm on these dates at the board office in Scandia 785-335-2206 extension 106.

Thank you for beginning the process of online enrollment for your child with Pike Valley. Below are instructions about enrolling your child. If you do not have an online parent account, instructions are also included in setting up your account.

To Set up a Parent PowerSchool account if you don’t have one:
If you do not already have a PowerSchool account, you can set one up by doing the following:
a. Click on "Create Account" Tab on the link above
b. Fill in the information requested for your desired username and password.
c. Enter your student's full name, Access ID and Password as shown below. Contact the School to receive your student Access ID and Password if you don’t have this information.

To add another child on your account:
On the left hand menu click on the bottom choice: Account Preferences
Click on the Students tab (should be behind the profile tab). Click Add (top right hand corner if your student name does not show up)

2. Step 2: Complete Enrollment forms
Once you have all of your students' names entered they should now appear with your other students' names in the top left corner of the blue bar under PowerSchool. You can toggle between student information and fill out or update each student's form and submit. Some forms are listed as optional, review, and required. Please fill out and submit [Required] Enrollment Fees form and then mail or drop off payment at the school or district office by August 14th. We are working on online payments for the future.
Select the student you are enrolling and click on the FORMS link with the left navigation menu. At the bottom of each form hit the SUBMIT button please.
Step 3: Provide Documentation If you are unable to upload documentation via the document upload elements on the form or email them to the school secretary:

Construction Effects for the Start of School:
Hello Everyone and thank you in advance for your patience and understanding with all the construction updates we have going on in USD 426. We are continuing to keep a close eye on progress and I am working closely with our custodial staff in determining how we need to proceed for the start of school.
With all this being said, we know that we are really having things tight for the start of the school year. We plan to continue to make adjustments as we go along this last month or so, but want everyone to know that we may have to push the start of school back a week or so. This will only be done if absolutely needed. We do want to start school on time.
We will make a final decision one week prior to the actual first scheduled day for this fall. In other words, we will have a notification go out on August 10th with the most updated information for the actual start of the school year.
If you have any questions, please give Mr. Joonas a call at 785-335-2206 for clarification, but again, be patient as we will send out a notification on August 10th. Thank you.

KSHSAA Summer moratorium is July 3rd-July 9th. This is a required break for all coaches and athletes. There will be no school related activities, including weights and sport specific activities, during this time. School facilities are not to be used for any school activities during this time. Enjoy the time off!

Kansas is creating a plan to expand broadband to every Kansan and asking everyone to visit
https://broadbandks.com to take a quick online speed test and survey. The test is simple and will only take a
couple of minutes to complete.
If you do not have internet service at your home or business, you can call or text 1 (913) 349-9555 and share your
address where there is no service.
To take the speed test, just make sure you are on Wi-Fi (not just on your cell phone network) from your home or
business. Look for this symbol this ( ) instead of this one ( ) to be sure you are not on your cell phone
network.
• The speed test will capture your internet speed, general location, and IP address, but will not record any
other personal information.
• You will also see a SURVEY button. The survey is optional, but we encourage you to take it.
It will provide
us with important information about how you connect, what training might be helpful, and how
affordable your internet service is.
This may not be the first time you have been asked to do this, but it may well be the most important. It can help
us prioritize the historic federal funding coming to Kansas! If possible, best results are obtained if you take 5-7
tests at different times of day with focus in the late afternoon or early evening since this is when you may
experience the slowest service.
We know that this is a busy time of the year with school ending and summer beginning. We deeply appreciate
your help in getting these tests done to share where the opportunities are to better connect Kansas.
